In the year 2021, the World Scholars Youth Program (TWSYP21) offered a unique and enriching educational experience to 78 students hailing from the International Islamic Boarding School, International Islamic Secondary School, and International Islamic High School Republic of Indonesia. This seven-week program, held from September to November, had a strong focus on English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction and was hosted in the vibrant city of San Diego.
TWSYP21 placed a special emphasis on ESL education, with instruction provided by the San Diego State University (SDSU). This comprehensive ESL program aimed to enhance students’ language skills and fluency, preparing them for future academic and professional pursuits.

Accommodations for TWSYP21 were provided at the Hilton Garden Inn in Old Town San Diego. This comfortable and centrally located hotel ensured that students had a convenient and enjoyable stay throughout the program and easy access to convenient public transportations.
Excursions during the program allowed students to explore San Diego’s rich cultural and natural attractions. They had the opportunity to visit the San Diego Spanish Heritage Historic Site, including Old Town and Balboa Park. Additionally, they explored natural reserves like Torrey Pines, enjoying the breathtaking natural beauty of the area. Other touristic areas, such as the San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld, and the USS Midway Museum, were also part of the exciting itinerary.
The San Diego State University enriched the educational experience by bringing in guest lecturers to cover a variety of global subjects. These lectures added depth and diversity to the curriculum, exposing students to a broad spectrum of knowledge.
As a gesture of gratitude to the San Diego community for their warm hospitality, our Indonesian students presented captivating performances of Indonesian cultural music and dances. These performances featured beautiful costumes and props prepared in Indonesia, showcasing the rich heritage of their homeland.
